Girls Exploring Math and Science event planned

The American Association of University Women is inviting all fifth-grade girls in West Hawaii to their annual GEMS event on Dec. 6 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

GEMS stands for Girls Exploring Math and Science. It is a full-day event with hands-on workshops to encourage an interest in science, technology, engineering and math. Registration forms were distributed to elementary schools this week. Registration deadline is Oct. 7. While those who are able pay $20 to register, scholarships are available so that no girl is left out. Home-schooled girls can download registration information at the AAUW-Kona website on its GEMS page at kona-hi.aauw.net.
